I created this site after a scare we had at our kids small Christian school. The school was contacted by the FBI and warned that registered sex offenders were viewing some of our students Myspace sites. The school immediately notified parents and quickly started reviewing the Myspace sites of the kids at the school. Some of the sites were shocking as far as content, language and information made available to the world. I started my own research and found the same disturbing sites. About the time I was
researching I started seeing the Dateline series "To catch a predator". I put a site up mainly to help parents at our children's school, but I soon discovered that a lot of parents needed educating on this subject. The kids have such an advantage over parents when it comes to technology. So, "TheParentsEdge" was created to do just that; to give parents an edge. My goal is to give parents information, easy step-by-step guides, advice, tools and tips that they can use to keep their kids safe online. Safety should always be a priority over privacy when it comes to our children. If you believe that you should not invade your children's privacy for any reason, then this site may offend you. As a parent, we have a right, no, we have an obligation to do everything in our power to ensure the well-being and safety of our kids. Many times, your teens' website may be completely appropriate, but that doesn't mean that the people viewing it are.
About me: I have been in the IT field since 1990. I spent 5 years as a systems administrator, then 5 years as a systems engineer on a military contract with the ARMY. Currently I am still working as a contractor for the ARMY as a DBA\systems engineer.
