WARNING - Myspace virus alert
Users of the popular MySpace website have been warned by computer experts that viruses linked to the interactive site, which boasts more than one million regular users, are in circulation.
Beware of spies on your computer
Spyware or adware is more than just a nuisance, and if you have teenagers that use your computer, you should be very concerned. According to a November 2004 study by the National Cyber Security Alliance and America online (www.staysafeonline.info/pdf/safety_study_v04.pdf) in which they surveyed 329 homes, more than 80 percent had some form of spyware installed on their computer, with an average number of spyware components registering in at 93.
Often the people who frequent sites such as Myspace are not very cautious or are skeptical about the risks they are taking on these sites. If your anti-virus and anti-spyware are not kept up to date at least weekly, your computer is vulnerable.
Home Is Where the Threat Is
Sensitive data such as banking passwords and e-mail addresses could unwittingly be handed over to criminals as a result of visiting infected pages, which work by exploiting a vulnerability in the user's Internet browser, a study by Google researchers suggests.
